Coachbuilder : Park Ward
Body Type : Drophead Coupe

History : The tremendous success Bentley enjoyed with the R Type Continental continued onto the S Series chassis in late 1955 with a range of new bodies available to collectors. The Park Ward drophead coupe was originally the brain child of legendary coachwork designer John Blatchley who had been involved in the styling of the R Type Continental by H.J. Mulliner. Six R Type Continental chassis were delivered to the Park Ward works, which were then owned by Rolls-Royce. Blatchley was given the task of styling the four drophead coupes and the two further fixed head coupes on the R Type Continental chassis, a design which was later slightly adapted for the marginally longer S1 Continental chassis. Chassis number BC4AF is one of just 55 right hand drive all aluminium bodied drophead coupes by Park Ward for the S1 Continental chassis. This design is widely regarded to be the most attractive post war Bentley with open coachwork and one that is highly coveted by collectors and enthusiasts alike. This particular motor car is just the third example of the fifty five built in right hand drive but has been retrospectively fitted with power steering which is considered a must by most S1 Continental owner/drivers.
It is currently being restored to a very high standard in our west London workshops. The work we are carrying out includes a full mechanical review to ensure reliability, correct performance and pleasurable motoring for the next owner. Cosmetically speaking BC4AF is being re-painted in garnet and will have a matching mohair hood fitted, including a new beige headlining. Other works include some re-chroming, a full re-trim in tan leather including a new hood cover, new carpets throughout including the boot, restored French walnut woodwork, new pressed aluminium number plates and hand painted gold coachlines. A correct owner’s manual and tools will also be present with the car upon completion. The final result will be an outstanding example of this much sought after Bentley Continental.
RESTORATION ALMOST COMPLETE, MORE PICTURES TO FOLLOW VERY SHORTLY.

Condition : Currently under restoration.

Technical Data : Four speed automatic gearbox, power steering, 6 cylinder in-line configuration engine, 4.9 litres displacement, 4887cc capacity. Drum brakes servo-assisted.
