1952 Alvis TC21 - Collector Car For Sale (Click Here)

Description:

The TA 21 was Alvis' last completely new car design to reach production. It sought to move the marquee back into a more expensive area of the market than the TA 14. Only the gearbox was carried on from the 12/70 through the TA 14, but many standard Alvis design characteristics could be identified. Independent front suspension, by coil springs and wishbones, was of Alvis design, mounted on a massive cross member. The 111 ½” wheelbase chassis had a frame and box section, the box being closed with a plate welded across the bottom. It was of still lighter section than the earlier chassis, yet more rigid. Rear suspension was conventional, with half-elliptic springs mounting a Salisbury hypoid axle. Telescopic dampers were fitted front and rear.

Standard coachwork was a four door sunroof saloon made by Mulliner, and the 2-door drophead from Tickford as you see here. The TA 21 line only consisted of only 1,316 cars ever being produced. The car you see here is a fantastic example of one of those famous dropheads. Finished in burgundy and white, the car has benefited from a recent restoration to bring it back to its original standards. The paint on the car is in fantastic condition with no major imperfections to be found. All the chrome shows very well and the windows are in good condition with no cracks or major rock chips. The burgundy soft top shows well with no holes or stains.

Inside, the reupholstered burgundy seats with white piping look great with no wear to be found. All of the vinyl is new throughout the inside of the car which looks great. The wood on the dash and doors is in very good, solid condition with no rotting or discoloration. The steering wheel has been covered with a leather cover. All gauges appear to be in good working order as well as the lights.

Under the hood, the inline 6 cylinder with dual SU carbs runs great. With a push of the starter button the car starts right up with no issues and runs down the road very smooth. The manual transmission shifts with no problems and the clutch performs as it should. The engine compartment is very clean and has been well kept since the restoration. The dual carbs have been recently tuned and perform problem free.

The underside of this car is as clean as the top with on rot to be found anywhere to the floors, frame supports or inner rockers. The current mileage on the car shows 81,735 which is believed to be actual for the car. VIN number is WA7874508 and the car is being sold on a clean Oklahoma title.
